Mixed Media with a Mushroom theme. These retail at £170 each

Whilst visiting Plumpton Rocks on a photographic trip, I discovered many varieties of mushrooms and fungi. The varying textures, shapes and colours made me instantly want to explore more and create textile artwork on this theme.

My next step was to look at the photographs and alter them using Photoshop. This allows me to concentrate on the line and form found within the groups. I particularly like the effect of overlaying different varieties of fungi, enhancing the colours and altering the texture. I do this technique many times sometimes with only subtle variations to the image.

These photographic images, which are pictures in their own right, then form the basis for my textile work and can even be incorporated into the final artwork.

I particularly like the drama of the dark blue background seen above on ‘Mushrooms 4’. It creates a strong contrast with the yellow stem and highlights the Van Gogh quote that “there is no blue without yellow”.

One thing I particularly like about these pictures, which you can just see in the top right corner, is the way the Angelina makes them change in light, much like the landscape changes through the day and seasonal light, so does the artwork.
